Our Students: Vasily, Dana and Daniil

Vasily Klemenko, 17 years old, Malvern College.

Vasily Klemenko is the junior boxing champion of Montenegro. I was delighted that his parents approached me for help with Vasily’s admission to a boarding school in the United Kingdom.

Vasily is 17, an excellent student, and on top of that he trains in boxing for at least 4 hours a day; his hobbies are photography and music from French films.

Vasily’s parents studied the UK education system and the leading academic schools in detail. Given Vasily’s age, we considered 6th Form programmes offering A-Level or IB.

After consulting with the parents and reviewing Vasily’s documents, we settled on three schools: Rugby School, Malvern College and Millfield School.

The entrance exams for these schools are quite demanding.

To enrol on A-Level, international students sit the same exams as local children — there are no allowances for foreigners. Depending on the chosen subjects, students sit exams in English in economics, history, mathematics and other subjects.

Vasily received official offers from Malvern College and Millfield School. From September this year he will become a student at Malvern College, while continuing to train in boxing.

I am sure we will soon see Vasily on the UK national team as well! I wish him the best of luck in his studies and in the ring!

Dana and Daniil, 13 years old, LVS Ascot

Dana and Daniil are twins and were determined to attend the same school together.

Unfortunately, their level of English was not high enough for a traditional English school.

For students who want to improve their English before applying to leading boarding schools, there are preparatory colleges for international students, where children not only study English intensively but also become familiar with the English education system.

There is another option I quite often recommend — studying for one term at a boarding school with additional English lessons.

Dana and Daniil’s parents chose the second option, also because the school’s infrastructure allows pupils to pursue other subjects.

Daniil is a musician — he writes modern music and plays the guitar.

LVS Ascot is a school with excellent infrastructure and strong musical training. In addition to core lessons, pupils can join the symphony orchestra, sing in the choir, play in the jazz band, and record music in a professional recording studio.

I have no doubt that Dana and Daniil will have plenty to keep them busy at school, will quickly raise their language level and successfully move on to the next year of study.
